No one can claim to have mastered the markets fully and anyone that does lay claim to such a title should be avoided like the plague.   For example, after QE all the rules changed and many time-tested indicators simply ceased to work because the operating environment had changed forever. The poll demonstrated an increase in acceptance of socialism and communism among American millennials and was released by the Victims of Communism Memorial Fund.

One-half of millennials and one-third of Americans would prefer to reside in a socialist or communist nation instead of a capitalist democracy, according to the poll.

“One in five (23%) of Americans age 21-29 consider Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin a ‘hero’; 26% for Vladimir Lenin; 23% for Kim Jong Un,” the study notes. Furthermore, over one-fifth of millennials surveyed had a positive opinion of Karl Marx.

While 56 per cent of baby boomers approved of capitalism compared with 26 per cent who favoured socialism, 39 per cent of millennials surveyed had a positive impression of socialism and capitalism. Read more

A concerning number of Millennials have favourable opinions of socialism and communism

One in five saying they consider mass murderers Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong Un heroes, according to a recent poll.

Shockingly, 44 per cent of millennials are saying they wished they lived in a socialist country rather than a capitalist one, and 7 per cent preferred to live in a communist country, the survey conducted by Victims of Communism Memorial Fund-YouGov found.

“Millennials are increasingly turning away from capitalism and toward socialism and even communism as a viable alternative,” said Marion Smith, Victims of Communism’s executive director, in a press release. “This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society regarding socialism and the systemic failure of our education system to teach students about the genocide, destruction, and misery caused by communism since the Bolshevik Revolution one hundred years ago.”

Importantly, however, a majority of the millennial respondents couldn’t define socialism communism, while four-fifths were unaware of how many lives were lost under communist regimes. Read more

A new poll reveals that over 20 per cent of Millennials consider dictators Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong Un to be “heroes.”
One in five (23%) of Americans age 21-29 consider Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin a ‘hero’; 26% for Vladimir Lenin; 23% for Kim Jong Un. As many as 60 million people were killed under Stalin’s rule. And in North Korea, Kim Jong Un has executed hundreds of his own citizens (at least) since 2011 when he came into power.

The poll, released by the Victims of Communism Memorial Fund, additionally revealed that almost half (44 per cent) of millennials prefer socialism over capitalism.

One remarkable finding of our study is that, to a high degree, Americans favour absolute protections for free speech, regardless of their views on communism or socialism. Communists and socialists more broadly have historically and ideologically favoured state regulation of the press, speech, and popular assembly. Our results suggest that Millennials who favor socialism and communism have not thoroughly considered the implications of their political beliefs. Read more
