Gun Stuff
I like guns. I have a few, I would like more... That's where TI comes in.

There's "grown-up" work like loading or emptying the dishwasher, doing laundry, parenting, vacuuming (the hard floors) which we both do.Yodean wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 12:18 amHmmm, although I am a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, more or less, I seriously question the wisdom of encouraging your significant other to become proficient in the use of firearms, and providing such ready access to such in your domicile.
I mean, what happens if there is a spirited debate about whose turn it is to take out the garbage? You are either a very brave man, or you like to live dangerously.
I get nervous enough when my wife is chopping vegetables in the kitchen and we start arguing about something. She's not a particularly good cook, but she's not bad with a knife . . .
In all seriousness, there are restrictive gun laws in Canada, so I settle for a poor substitute:

There's woman work: cooking (more than frozen pizza or hotdogs).
There's man work like taking out the trash, mowing, snow removal, auto maintenance, and vacuuming soft floors (lucky me only two rooms in the house are carpeted).
I'm not saying she'll never kill me, but it won't be with a gun. My wife is a very good cook, it'll be poison. My in-laws heat their homes with large outdoor wood fired boilers so there won't be a body to find.

Ellipsis Manual gave me so many eureka moments, now it’s easy for me to spot it and just be observant.
Of course not all are like this, however it’s up to the individual to observe the actions of people and not be emotionally tied up to the physical nature or sex.

What are your favorite calibers? Even though the majority of my handguns are 9mm, the majority of guns on my wish-list are .40 "Short & Weak". I actually only have 1 handgun in .40 S&W, mainly because I chose 9mm for my pocket-gun. 40 is a snappy round in a full-size plastic gun, I figure it would be downright unpleasant in a micro-pistol.

So small?!?!? In .50AE? Compared to a tank maybe.AstuteShift wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 1:16 pm My favorite gun has to be the desert eagle

Here's a pic I shamelessly lifted from an internet image search (it's not me). Admittedly it's a baby-Glock, but still...

I thought for sure someone would mention Alec Baldwin in this thread. Think he'll become a gun safety advocate?AstuteShift wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 6:03 pm Small compared to AK47s, my other favorite

Current atmospheric levels of CO2 (400ppm) are much lower than 500 million years ago (3000-9000ppm).

Re: Gun Stuff
A real AK-47 is HIGH on my wish-list...(a DE in .50AE is also on the list but way down in "I won the lottery" territory). The prices on AKs had almost come back down to what I considered to be reasonable; then we got hit with the scamdemic and a summer of riots and looting...
I have "a poor-man's AK" as some call it. It's a numbers-matching Chinese SKS in good condition that will have to continue to support my 7.62x39 habit for the foreseeable future.
Interestingly the .50AE and 7.62x39 cartridges have really close to the same amount of power at the muzzle. A bonkers amount of muzzle energy for a handgun but decidedly middle of the pack for a rifle.

I remember several years ago in Ukraine just for the fun of it I went on a KALASHNIKOV shooting tour. One of my friends got me a deal that was too good to refuse. It's a beautiful piece of equipment.
It was something akin to this but only not near chernobyl

The only weapon I used is the FAL, when I made my military service.
But the only weapon I dreamed to have when I was kid is this one, the MARE'S LEG, or the Winchester Randall. A winchester 1892 with a shortened barrel.

I on the other hand, have owned many handguns and long arms. My first a S&W model 41. With it I won a trophy for high timed fire (99/100) in the 1975 Navy ROTC Big Eight competition (quit ROTC, Navy not for me).
My favorite handgun was a Sig Saeur P220 45ACP. My chosen fodder for it, the Speer (or is it Sierra, not sure now) 185gr ("flying ashtray") hollowpoint. A bit big for me to conceal so my "carry" was a H&K 4 .380ACP stoked with Magsafe or Glaser Safetyslugs, frangible bullets.
My favorite rifle a Remington SS Varmint Special in .223 (same caliber as the M16). With my reloads, could print 1" groups at 100 yards on a good day.
My favorite shotgun a Remington model 870. If I could own only one, that would be it, since shotguns are so versatile.
I hand/reloaded many claibers.
My wet dream would be a H&K MP5 in 10mm (not available, as it was a one off production for Navy SEALs).
Since I'm in Russia now, I own no firearms, though I could.
P.S. @ Eric. I had a SKS with a fixed 30 round magazine. With stripper clips, saw no need for an AK.

Re: Gun Stuff
IMO 10mm is a modern equivalent to .357 magnum. A fantastic cartridge with a lot of power from a handgun and even more to be had in a carbine! Much like a 357 can be lightly loaded or usually shoot .38 Spl from the same chamber, 10mm can be similarly reduced and I know some people shoot .40 S&W from their 10mm chambers. Unfortunately the only 10mm carbine that I can think of is Hi-Point and even I have some standards.
I've never heard about a 30 round fixed magazine... That's something to investigate. My SKS has the original 10 round fixed magazine and I have several hundred rounds loaded up on stripper clips.
