I started "mining" this crypto about two years ago and have a couple thousand coins. It is not really mining, it is more collecting. You just click a button once a day on your phone. They have about 36 million people involved. It is one of the largest distributed cryptos. Your mining rate goes up when you invite people, lock up coins, run a node etc.
They were unique because they started distributing the coins before they had the blockchain built. It is still not open to trade on exchanges yet and doesn't have a price... but.
Just recently, several exchanges have started trading Pi futures. I don't know much about this. I guess they are not official Pi coins but are just IOU's. I would not buy these but was surprised that some prices are holding around $100USD! https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/pinetwork/. This seems positive but I am not holding my breath. If the price is anything above $3 I will be pretty pleased. Not bad for 5 seconds a day to push a button. My wife told me that I am like Desmond from the show Lost.
