Trust Hotel Wifi?

Post by Jaz »

Hello,

I am travelling to Jamaica next week for vacation.

The resort apparently has excellent Wifi throughout. I would assume they provide a password for guests to use.

Would it be safe to use their Wifi on my Android Device?

If you are using the phone for browsing and not doing anything serious, then its okay. However, if you are logging into accounts etc., Use A VPN. I trust nothing outside and always use a paid secure VPN. In fact, I sometimes use the double VPN option and enable the kill switch to incase there is a VPN failure. What that means is that if the VPN temporarily fails your internet connection is cut off until it's back on. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

I will need to login to my Broker Account, via their App, and also emails. What VPN would you recommend?

CyberGhost is good if you need a lot of servers but https://www.hidemyass.com/en-ca/index is also good. You can't go wrong with either. The former might have better promos

ProtonVPN is what I use. They're the best according to my research.

I have the paid version of windscribe and free cyberghost for backup. Normal to have minimal connection issues but require backup in a few instances.

Did you end up buying the Bimmer or held off? Enjoy the rum. If the rum is anything like in the Philippines, it tastes great when mixed with coconut water and served in the coconut. Many years ago, when Boracay was still a paradise, I had the opportunity of tasting it. To get to the Island, you had to take these small boats, as no commercial vehicles of any kind were allowed to operate. No cars were also allowed on the island. Anyway, these boats stopped about 10 meters from the beach. You hopped off and were greeted by white sands that dazzled the eyes, and when you walked onto the beach, pretty girls put flower necklaces around your neck (sort of like Hawaii) and then they came up with these coconuts filled with rum. It tasted so good I made the mistake of having one too many, and in no time, I was smashed. The rum was tasty and did not feel strong, so I assumed it was not potent. Later on, I found out that in some cases, the alcohol content can surpass 45%.

However, you could get a massage on the beach. So I opted for this and crashed while getting the massage. Brings back good memories. Oh well, times do change, and so darn fast.

We just came back from Punta Cana a few weeks ago. When I was there, I traded/sold options during the really hot hours of the day, enjoyed the beach during the late mornings and late afternoons, and played poker in the hotel casino at night (Hard Rock Hotel). Got in some basketball and ping pong during the day as well.

Pretty good life. Got on top of the wife a few times too.

In terms of the computer vpn stuff, had no problems (yet) using the public hotel Wifi. However, maybe in the future I will use a vpn.

There was one potential internet issue/scam - my spouse used one of the hotel computers in the business center to print out our returning boarding passes - an extra screen popped up and she paid an extra fee for the two of us. Turned out that wasn't necessary - likely a scam. Her credit card is still okay.

No. I'm increasingly frustrated with my life and work situation, and want to get to where I want to be as quickly as possible.

i.e Not needing to work for someone else in three years, with a side business.

So the £25k really would be better put to use in the Market. I'll probably use my April Bonus to buy something older and less extravagant.

Anyway, I am certain Car prices are about to plunge. Tesla is offering large discounts, and Car financing rates over here are nearing a suicidal 15%. A year ago they were below 8%!

I'll think I'll raid the Dom Rep next. From now on, I will aim to travel at least three times per year.

Jamaica was Awesome. The resort and location was perfect. The Staff worked incredibly hard to make sure everything was perfect too. I stayed at the Royalton Negril if you ever plan a trip to Jamaica. TBH though, I only really saw Negril, and only the 'real' Jamaica from the airport/hotel transfer.

Lol, yeah, Jamaica's real nice - been there a few times, although not recently. I think the last time was 2011 at the Iberostar.

Saw as much of the "real" Jamaica as you did - i.e. airport to resort to beach, with a few touristy excursions.

Peeps pretty chill, gives you a refreshing perspective.

There was a mildly funny story that happened the first time I was in Jamaica - I was walking around the resort and the beach, and both the hotel staff as well as the natives on the beach who were selling contraband kept greeting me and calling me "Mr. Chen" as I passed, and often engaged me in small talk.

As you know, "Chen" happens to be my real surname, so I thought I was some badass VIP and they had all gotten together and make sure they knew my name before I ran into them.

Still, it was strange, and kept happening ... and then I realized that at the time at least, they weren't used to as many Asian visitors, so they called every Asian dude "Mr. Chen"! My then-gf thought it was the funniest thing ever and we laughed our heads off about it.

A few also called me "Jackie Chan" and made some kung fu motions with their arms and hands when we met. I actually know some kung fu so wasn't offended. Would have preferred the Bruce Lee comparison vs. the Jackie Chan comparison, as the former is almost as good-looking as me (on an age-adjusted basis, of course), but it's amazing how famous Jackie Chan is in Jamaica (and Dominican, too, I've also been called "Jackie Chan" there, especially when I play poker).

Good times ...

Yeah Man!

People Chilled, coz they're not so indoctrinated into the western system. Many still living off the land to some degree, preparing and cooking food as they've done for centuries. Not sat at home in front of the TV, with only minimal education to brainwash them. I notice Jamaican adults tend to have different feet to those who live in the West, and I don't think it is a Genetic thing. Wide club like feet. I think this is because they probably did a lot of things bare foot as kids. Probably how a foot is supposed to look. Don't worry, I don't have a foot fetish, but did a lot of boat things, where the locals were mostly bare foot, for obvious reasons. Could be one of the reasons why they dominate Track and Field.

I tried some of their local herbal contraband. No where near as strong as the stuff back home. That must be some super strength strain grown inside, while there's is grown in nature without fertilizers.

Currently considering DomRep, Zanzibar, and Phuket. I'll be travelling alone for the next one.

Some might say that you don't take sand to the beach, in regards to the statement above. You have to try some Juju juice as Sol once put it. Usually good stuff in South America, I hear there is some great stuff in Africa, but so far I have not ventured to that part of the world. I would say Halang bay Vietnam is way better than Phuket. Phuket is nothing but an overrated Tourist Trap.

You want something truly exotic and spectacular two places come to mind Monte Verde in Costa Rica or  Nong Kiau in Laos. I would probably rank  Nong Kiau higher.

Going to Mex in a few weeks so i thought i would buy a vpn and did Nordvpn $300 cad for 2 yrs on sale (still on a 30 day money back trial period as recomended by a friend) who said he had used it successfully in hotels travelling but i do not think he travels that much. Now ive seen some articles that certain vpn's such as this one r not compatible with various certain routers and i do believe the small apartment of 9 suites where i am to stay has some routers.
Two of my brokers said i just had to download their mobile app before i go and i can get the verification codes there using the said public wifi and the third said they will email the verification codes and both methods r safe with no roaming charges.

There was also some hope if i could get some streaming going on my computer at home first i could watch some sports down there as well of my teams i follow

So now i am wondering if it is all worth it and whether or not to just shelve it. Thanks in advance for any input.
