PUTS - time for? now?

have not seen much on updates on Puts here or on AI. Would this be a good time to think of Puting some plays maybe 1.3 years out before the put market heats up ie moves toward overbought hi prices?. Any comments or precise choices and i assume if already own an existing co it would be a means to downside protection.
