Fake COVID passports are going to be a lucrative hotspot for hackers and the trend indicates that these passports will become so good that most experts will have a hard time telling a real one from a fake one.

Here are some stories that illustrate that this nascent trend is set to gain traction

After peddling fake tests and vaccines for the coronavirus, criminals are now selling counterfeit vaccination certificates in Mexico City, allowing their customers to lie about their vaccine status and travel abroad.

Vendors in Mexico City’s Plaza de Santo Domingo neighborhood are charging 500 to 600 pesos ($24 to $30) for the fabricated documents, El Universal reported. The discovery was made less than a week after the Mexican government announced the certificates program on July 6.

The fabricated documents appear to have two purposes for travel. First, unvaccinated people, or those with their first dose, can use the fake certificates to gain entry to countries that require two doses.

Second, they can change the vaccine listed on their certificate for countries with specific requirements. For example, the European Union only accepts travelers having received Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson and Johnson vaccines, the four approved by the European Medicine Agency.

Yet, in Mexico, many people have received the China-made CanSino or Sinovac vaccines.

Unfounded fears of the vaccine may also be playing a part. An unnamed vendor selling falsified certificates told El Universal that some people buy a fake certificate to avoid being vaccinated "because they said they were going to be killed."

The fake documents work by including a QR code that redirects to a fake website designed to look similar to the government COVID-19 vaccination website. In an interview with Agence France-Presse, cybersecurity expert Carlos Ramírez said that it is challenging but possible for criminals to “load each QR with the data requested by customers.”

A hidden pandemic market advertising fake vaccine and test certificates for as little as £25 has grown exponentially, with more than 1,200 vendors in the UK and worldwide, researchers have found.

After UK ministers announced the return of overseas holidays – with travellers required to show proof of negative tests, and vaccine passports on the horizon – the Guardian has also learned that anti-vaxxers and people arriving in Britain from poorer nations make up a significant number of those buying forged pandemic paraphernalia.

Last month MPs were told that more than 100 people a day are trying to enter the UK using fake Covid test certificates as individuals attempt to get around current entry requirements, which include tests before and after travel and can cost individuals hundreds of pounds.

Israel-based researchers found evidence of forgeries of vaccine cards by the NHS and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alongside fake test certificates, all available for sale on the dark web and through easy-to-access platforms including the messaging apps WhatsApp, Telegram and Jabber.

Watching as Russia's drive to vaccinate its citizens against coronavirus stumbled earlier this year, Sergei had a hunch that authorities would eventually make inoculations mandatory.

But the 30-something in the southern Krasnodar region had no plans of getting a jab.

So he found a dealer online hawking fake vaccine certificates, sent his personal details over encrypted messenger Telegram and transferred 15,000 rubles ($200, 175 euros).

Three weeks later, Sergei logged onto Russia's government services portal to find a certificate showing he had received both doses of the country's homegrown Sputnik V vaccine — without ever having been jabbed.

Russia last August stoked concerns over Sputnik V by registering the vaccine ahead of large-scale clinical trials, but international experts have since declared it safe and effective.

Moscow authorities say the measures are working, with some 60,000 people per day —10 times more than before — now signing up for vaccination appointments.

But one seller on a darknet forum, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that 20 to 30 orders for fake certificates were coming in daily.

"I'm getting asked to vaccinate whole companies," the seller boasted in an exchange on Telegram.

At the low end of the black market, Russians can get a paper booklet certifying they were vaccinated for 2,000 rubles ($28, 23 euros).

At the top end, for 30,000 rubles ($400, 350 euros) middlemen say they can get a medical worker to pour out vaccine doses and upload falsified medical records to the government portal.

(Financial Independence Retire Early) movement, a great movement if one understands that after achieving F.I.R.E., to continually engage the world and develop oneself (i.e. not the "sit on a beach drinking tequila" nor the "eat a bunch of chips and watch Netflix" retirement archetype). Lol, during our 2.5 hour urban hike today, my wife and I passed one of the local peelers. The front entrance, as you can see, is quite funny.

Perhaps more importantly, I secured official permission from her to check this place out in person, for research purposes: she wants me to test out my fake cv19 jab pass (also have the medical exemption report but don't think Zanzibar will honour that, lol).

She is brilliant when it comes to programming, but outside of that as thick as a brick and as dumb as a doorknob. So true with trying to point out info, most have bought into the narrative, and now have an emotional investment in it, thinking they're clever cause they can repeat what they're being told!

A friend was told by one of his friends that he should go with her interpretation of what was happening with Covid since she was a scientist, the fact that her discipline is in studying cloud formation of course shouldn't come into it , and cannot verify any of the data but merely believing it on faith. I think perhaps it's not so much the intelligent that are easily manipulated Sol, but those who take great pride in it!

I heard from a college that one of his co-workers created a fake certificate then registered in another state and got into the system. As a backup, he supposedly went overseas and registered there (Canada or GB). It seems that countries have a system that allows those that took vaccines outside to register in that country without too much hassle. Now when you are registered there you can come back to your country and pretend you took the shots in Canada for example and use that certificate to register in the US. Just passing info that I heard

They are literally hundreds of miles from anywhere, out in the ocean, with the same 7 people on board for months at a time, and the company that owns the boat is requiring all of them to get vaccinated by the end of the year or no job

messing with kids is one of the sure ways to wake up the masses, so now that the FDA, Fools, demons and arses incorporated states that vaccinating kids 5 and below is fine, they are asking for a massive blow black and it will come. The question is when and when it does I would not want to be in their shoes.
