In his early days he was 'educated' by the Carmelite nuns, who certainly appear to be a particularly unpleasant and nasty group of people.

This clearly affected his opinion of religion, although despite this he always used to end with "Goodnight, and may your God go with you".

I forgot about good ole Dave Allen, another chap with incredible talent and one who would put most of today's wannabe comedians to shame. I will have to watch a few more skits over the weekend.

Nuns in the past were some of the cruelist, especially in Ireland to those having babies out of wedlock etc. You wonder if they actually read the words of Jesus at all!

Note to Sol & others in case you hadn't noticed - same actor. David Jason in his early years is Granville, working with Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours. Later he landed the lead role in Only Fools & Horses, which is regularly voted favourite sitcom in the UK. Technically he was too old for the part (over 40!) but most people can't imagine anyone else being Delboy.

A couple of examples here - the first one is his main routine.

The second one is with Dean Martin, who really looks as if he is enjoying it. It's said that performances with Dean Martin were not rehearsed. I don't know if that is true or not, but it certainly comes across as partially impromptu.
