Unofficial Plays - Short positions

Post by scremonini »

Dear Sol, in the latest market update, both Tesla and Alibaba have been indicated as potential short plays.
Tesla parabolic rise is matched by another EV play in China, called BYD (Build your Dream). It appears trading in absolute overbought ranges, even more than Tesla. I think it could be worth having a look through your indicators.

Remember these plays are big gain but also big risk

They can easily rally with no explanation and destroy your shorts

Make sure you only use very little capital, shorting in bull markets leads to heavy stress

I agree with AstuteShift shorting in these markets is stressful. 1211.HK, BYDDF looks overbought but remember no stock is so high it can't go higher. If it lets out steam, beware a bear trap. When these suckers snap back, it'll make your head spin.

Looking at BYDDF, daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly charts all look the same: ADX headed straight up. That means it's not going to be contained within it's upper Bollinger Band. Me, I'd be looking for points to buy this beast on pull backs (26.79, 22.45 and 18.94).

While I'm at it: BABA is caught up in those "enlightened" Chinese rulers smacking down internet companies as they got "too big for their britches". (If only USA, if only. See Poland has passed legislation against internet cos publishing lies/falsehoods.) Meanwhile, Jack Ma is keeping his head down.

$225 is it's 50% retracement level. It's let out too much air to short here.

TSLA: full disclosure - own it, took some profits but will buy more (current calcs) at 765, 691 and 632.

Now remember - you read this on the effin' internet!

While its overbought its not insanely overbought and it could run higher, in comparison TSLA is trading deeper into the overbought ranges than BYDDF. However as others have noted when it comes to shorting stocks use risk capital only and be careful, this is why we don't issue official short plays when the trend is up. We prefer relaxing and waiting for these companies to pullback for when they resume their trends 9 out of 10 of them blow past their old highs.

Additional consideration re BYD. They were the company involved in the Gavin Newsome mask deal from last year. Judicial Watch published docs gained from a FOI enquiry:

Major upvote for shorting BYD but that gets overwhelmed by Chinese Joe running the show. Perhaps we should consider going long?

Astute you are wise. Even though I'm baffled by all the woo woo 3rd and 4th level thinking you and SOL are always on about I'm consistently impressed by your wisdom ...impressive in someone so young. I've had people in my life tell me I'm smart but I think smart people get slaughtered in the market by greed and arrogance. Thanks for being active in the forum and for always being a voice of reason.
Current atmospheric levels of CO2 (400ppm) are much lower than 500 million years ago (3000-9000ppm).

Thank you for the kind words.

The market works against those who think logically about it since it’s just a manifestation of our greatest fears and desires

A desire or fear is on the low totem pole of consciousness and the market abuses that over and over again to individuals who don’t know themselves and how they act or why they act a certain way

As SOL would state, sit back and relax, let the market give you the opportunity. Chasing in any form of life leads to a bad outcome usually, patience and discipline is the way to go. Then once opportunity comes then back it up and buy, celebrate and don’t look back.
