Bringing Friends & Family to TI

Post by Eric »

Have any of you brought friends or family to TI? I've only told a few people about TI...the ones that I think are open enough to believe it might be possible to make more than 15% per year. I have a few other friends that have been doing better than the average 401k but earning maybe 12% or 15% for most of the last 20 years and too entrenched in "conventional wisdom" investing methods and strategies.

Working on it. People are a bit challenged by the narrative on the public website imo. Combined with other bias, they fail to modify long time habits in search of something which is rather logical in its construct.

The best way to do it is to do it slowly

Cognitive easing, keep bringing small tad bits of your performance and how the trend is your friend until the end

When the markets crash? Celebrate and get everyone dinner, do a party and tell them it’s due to blood on the streets

If they argue with you, don’t fight them. Just smile and say you will see

And keep mentioning it over and over again, however don’t have an expectation of them joining

If they still refuse then just accept it

I recommend that you don’t go overboard, it’s better to have your peace and power. People that don’t want to wake up will get very angry with you or ignore you.

What I do instead, is talk about spirituality more, letting go of negative emotions, displaying my calmness in the realms of chaos and eventually or hopefully they get the hint.

Talk more about feelings, emotions and less on markets but sprinkle a little of it.

I have mentioned TI to several friends and associates but as MarkD mentioned people are generally too entrenched in their views to even consider trying something new even though I have shown them my gains so far. and shared some excerpts from past market updates. TI approaches investing and life through a different lens, which takes an open mind and the willingness to embrace new concepts. I think of the almost 12 individuals I talked to, only one so far has joined. Old habits even if they provide bad results are hard to shake off as Sol puts it misery loves company and something about stupidity demanding it. However, I am glad to run into many like minds here, something that I think would be very difficult under today's conditions.

I agree with astute, the one person that joined, I think joined because I let the information float out there and repeated in a non-pushy manner, those that want to listen will and those that don't want to will do what they always do.

I'm not pushing anyone at all. If they don't want to do better I'm not going to push them to do better. My thought process is akin to: "The light switch is over here if you're interested, otherwise sit in the dark---makes no difference to me."

For me personally, as I let go of my past discretions, it’s a lot easier to display positive emotions and thoughts. It’s easier to say your truth even if others don’t agree with you.

All it takes one person to lead an army, however it’s important to not to be attached also.

You also see the patterns in the mass mindset, I use that data in my trading. It maybe cold and calculated but opportunity doesn’t forgive to those who ignore valuable data.

I like this approach. I will give it a shot. Up to now I have not tried, because I was not sure how to go about it as the investing style and thinking is well not the norm to say the least. I have had problems getting people to accept new ideas in the past, I guess it was probably due to trying to hard to get them to see the light. :ugeek:

Yeh, to my friends and family, I sound almost like a little bit of a shill for Sol's stuff, and have exposed at least, by my last count, two dozen or more people to his work in the past year alone. Several have become subscribers here.

As alluded to by others, some are quite disturbed by such notions as the potential existence of Overlords, that most of formal education is propaganda, that mainstream media is generally bollocks, fiat money is basically evil incarnate, etc.

Interestingly, those who watch CNN on a regular basis seem most resistant to Sol's ideas. This observation is purely anecdotal, of course, and has not been subjected to the rigors of double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials, and ergo this data must be viewed with some reservation.

For me, the non-financial content is just as important as the financial portion, maybe even more so, i.e. the "4th level stuff," "herd psychology" applications to other, non-financial domains in life, etc. Also, the recommended reading list is quite excellent, and I am doing my best to get through it all - a great challenge.
