If someone can't be trusted with a little then they can't be trusted with a lot. Think of the individual who instead of handing a wallet in that they have found, keeping it. Think of the person who doesn't pick up their dogs crap and leaves it in the middle of a path for someone to tread in (one of my per hates, pun intended), then give that person great power.

Diplomatic response: indeed, what was meant was that extreme situations, such as a sudden increase in wealth or power, or extreme adversity (e.g. developing cancer, losing a loved one suddenly to post-vax. side-effects, breaking a limb during physical exercise, etc.), tend to bring out parts of an individual that were not apparent previously (in 4th Way parlance, suppressed, little "I's" rise up to the limelight).
