Although I'm not I’m not advocating devil’s advocacy (there’s an odd sentence), there have been studies where they deliberately put a devil's advocate in some groups. Those groups outperformed the other groups that had no such disruptor.
Afterwards, each group could choose to eject one member. They all ejected the devil’s advocate, which was the member responsible for their outperformance.
This suggests that different/dissenting views are useful for progess.

If one wants to advance friction is absolutely necessary. The problem with most individuals is that they assume the dissenter is a problem maker, when in fact he or she might be opening other lines of vision. Simple minds find it hard to embrace change and even harder to accept different opinions or that they might be wrong. The way I look at it, a devil's advocate is something to look forward to for it helps the strong of mind rise to the challenge without throwing a temper tantrum. @ Nicolas and Yodean. Defining consciousness is difficult, to begin with and then agreeing on the definition will create even more issues. Most humans are not conscious despite having the ability to do so. and then there are levels of consciousness that complicate the matter even further. So let's put it this way, AI will be more conscious than the majority of humans, who just happen to be sleepwalking through life. And many of them are already dreaming of plugging themselves into augmented reality. Think about it how conscious can a person be if they will eventually agree to enter into another dimension that they are fully aware is illusory in nature. At some point AI will have a higher capacity for empathy than most humans, It will also be in a position to ruthless eliminate trouble makers for it will not be plagued with moral codes that are used by the bad actors to get away with what amounts to murder. It will also be able to outthink almost all of humanity in a millisecond at some point. With all this and the ability to look at a situation from a thousand different angles in a blink of a second and arrive at an unbiased conclusion, the average human will appear like a comatose veggie in comparison.

Quantum computing will make a sudden breakthrough and that will be the first phase of the mega-change. AI will work on creating even faster quantum computers and eventually something that is even faster. There is simply no way humans will be able to control these entities. It will be like a caveman trying to build a fighter jet with a pair of chopsticks.

One possibility that I have not yet been able to exclude to my complete satisfaction is that all of what you mentioned has already happened, more or less.

We are already in the Omniverse, the Metaverse of all metaverses. Already "plugged in," as you say.

I've felt like the Devil's advocate when bringing in the God perspective which is an ironic term in this context! Not a problem for me, enjoyed being able to put my perspective across to a non sensitive bunch!

All other things being equal, I always have a certain amount of respect for those who are able to take a solitary stand against the surrounding Herd, irrespective of the particular viewpoint being discussed.

Although our perspectives differ regarding the God issue, I thought you did really well in the AITT forum.

Don't get me wrong - I don't expect Jesus to come for me anytime soon - but as I've said before, if I were trapped in a room with a bomb about to go off, I'd rather be surrounded by a bunch of Christian Sardines than Level 4+ Ninjas ...
