Yes I was. Thanks for correction
Current atmospheric levels of CO2 (400ppm) are much lower than 500 million years ago (3000-9000ppm).

Anyone lapping up some more bitcoin gbtc at supposed discount price today of 13.20 or better? but there is a support line around 12.50 - im wondering if Bitcoin has any contrarian history to the mkt.

Well, if you want, we can virtually shake hands and agree that we tied on this bet ... call it a draw, both of us are winners/losers.

E.g. I'm happy to cancel this bet and call it a draw. You get bragging rights since I blinked first after talking a bit of smack.

harryg wrote: Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:29 am The phrase 'You cannot profit by listening to a prophet' is not mine, it's from the Zurich Axioms.

The purpose of the phrasing is to encourage people to accept that one of the 'secrets' to doing well in the markets is to think and act (react) for oneself, to develop one's own independent methodology.

This does not mean that one should not seek out research, opinions and views. Neither does it mean that these views should be disregarded, or that people making predictions should be mocked. It is just a reminder that however intelligently formulated and meticulously researched, they are predictions about the future.

Let's take the weather. The question for investors/speculators isn't whether or not it will rain, because the truth of the matter is that you don't know for certain. It's what will you do if it does rain and what will you do if it doesn't rain. What will you do if it rains far more than expected and what will you do if it doesn't rain for a week. What you will do if the weather forecast disappears for a month or a different weather forecast says the opposite of the first one.

Of course when we invest in something that is in itself a prediction of sorts (that it will go up). But it's wise not to get bogged down by the prediction itself and the reasoning behind it. This can be the difference between wishing to be "right" (perfectly natural) and wishing to make money.
Amazing post. But not being able to mock and tease (and occasionally spit in public) makes life a lot less fun for moi ... ah well.

Gotta learn a li'l bit of that British restraint thing ...

By the way there is a good podcast https://www.samharris.org/podcasts/maki ... went-wrong in which Mark Andreessen explains why BTC is good digital gold but not necessarily good digital currency. The first part is is free (the whole podcast requires a subscription) but the good stuff is in front anyway. I love the way Mark explains web1,2,3 and the mystery of the creator of BTC.

agreed. But if this market keeps going down i get to make fun of you as my contrarian indicator for teasing me when I took 60% of my funds to cash (out of the market) last week. Oh, I know it will probably bounce some more but still, at the moment I look prescient.

If the pattern holds, and so far, there are no reasons to expect it won't, you are on the money. But what comes after that is looking increasingly negative. Actually, I hope I am wrong, for it is easy to rebalance in a bull market but not so easy in a very tough down market. Recall the Fake bull in 2008 and 1973 to early 1974.
