Agree but I'd qualify that: not all legit companies are legit. Caveat emptor. And the PTB can legitamize and delegitimize with the stroke of a pen. Yep, SuccinctHarry pretty much sums up the financial space in a few sentences. He's good at putting in 100 words what I like to say in 1000+ ...harryg wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 7:13 am All financial assets, without exception, have no intrinsic value and are worth only what someone will pay for them. Intrinsic value, in this context, is a nonsense made up by the financial services industry. The price of all of them goes up and down based on expectations, calculations, fear/greed, call it what you will. Without disagreement on value there would be no price and no market.

Everything, in a way, is based on an illusory narrative. Even the idea that your life is in any way "important" or that humanoid life has "intrinsic value" is an artificially constructed narrative. Now, they are useful narratives, perhaps, and necessary to some extent for societal functioning, but at their core they are still narratives.
Or that you "must" have children to experience fulfillment, or get married, buy a house, go to university, be popular, be nice to strangers, etc. All narratives ...
As long as blockchain exists and continues to evolve, BTC will be fine. It's technical pattern is remarkably similar to Amazon's during its early years. ETH is a bit riskier, but also has more upside.
Also, BTC is not "cryptos." It has several distinguishing qualities that separate it from the other alt. coins.
You really need to seriously study BTC and its code/construction etc. for >100 hours to truly even begin to understand it.
One serious problem with BTC and cryptos is that financial "experts" don't truly understand the technological implications of blockchain and cryptos, while programmers and other technical "experts" don't fully grasp the financial implications of BTC and blockchain, but do understand the coding implications.
Both groups tend to get smashed ... you kind of need to have some experience and knowledge in both (coding/programming and trading/investing), and blend that knowledge into a useful mix. Or be a bit of a crazy SOB like moi

So it's a tricky space to do well in, plus you add in the volatility that is inherent in any new sector.
BTC is a teenager (13-14 years old), and we all know how moody (volatility) teenagers can be. But such potential as it grows ...
The crypto. space is going through what the banking sector underwent in 2008-9 - except, no bailouts with taxpayers' money for the crypto. holders.
In the near-term, BTC's got a decent chance of getting to the 25k - 28k region - I'll be selling a bit there. ETH is leading this leg up, targeting $1700. BTC will have a hard time breaking through the 28k to 30k zone.

Re: Intrinsic Value
Absolutely. Everyone lives in their own reality I suppose.
The whole point of discussion is to share ideas, not to entrench oneself in one's pre-existing view or to try to convince others that it is correct.
In any case, I've never understood why any difference of opinion is supposed to be resolved by both sides coming to a consensus. I mean, I don't need a consensus to know I'm right, do I ?

We also have our own vanities. I like to think that I know a lot about the markets, but then a so-called 'newbie' might say something that sends me off in a new and hitherto unknown direction.
I've often thought that a sign of **mental decay, for me, would be if I was no longer interested in learning new concepts or listening to different viewpoints.
**Madame would likely would interject the word 'further' here

Precisely, which is why my motto is simple. As long as I am having doing it, I don't care what others think. If am not having fun doing it or I don't find it challenging the whole world could be behind me and I would still stop doing that thing at the drop of a hatThe whole point of discussion is to share ideas, not to entrench oneself in one's pre-existing view or to try to convince others that it is correct.
Along those lines comes to mind that the most important thing in the world is to be happy with oneself or using Zen type of thinking to be at ease or at peace with one's self? Well, what about what others think? Bullocks to the lot. As long as what you are doing harms no one, nobody has the right to tell you what to do.In any case, I've never understood why any difference of opinion is supposed to be resolved by both sides coming to a consensus. I mean, I don't need a consensus to know I'm right, do I ?![]()
Hence the TI philosophy is that there are no experts or masters, only bad students that stopped learning and assigned themselves fancy titles so they could garner a following of fools. We also have our own vanities. Harry, my dear man you are a person after my own heart. I could not state this any better. The day I lose interest in learning or think I know it all, well that should be construed as the day I start losing my marbles, and that Juice therapy as in high voltage might be in order.I've often thought that a sign of **mental decay, for me, would be if I was no longer interested in learning new concepts or listening to different viewpoints.

Re: Light Entertainment
This is inspired from another topic on this forum.
There’s a scene on a British comedy called Miranda that goes something like the following:
A friend says to Miranda, I’m not being rude but he’s (man that comes into their shop) out of your league.
She responds that just by saying “I’m not being rude but” and then saying something rude doesn’t make it not rude.
Her friend doesn’t get it and repeats the same thing so Miranda then reponds “oh ok, I’m not being rude, but you’re an ugly bitch”!

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

Mostly all true, my comments being...
Still beautiful women, but over the last 15 years have noticed their ankles getting thicker, as Harry might put it.
No cancel culture true, but I see prejudice against черные, не русские (black, not Russian); yet live and let live.
Christianity mostly given lip service. Though we've found a wonderful Batushka who is a Monk now, most I've met in the church are "holier than thou" types. Which makes me one too, eh?
