Right you are 'arry, Uzi's are for cover fire and room clearing. Nowadays a H@K MP5 would be better at that, and not what I think gnosis could buy, even if interested.

Assuming your thinking of a handgun, if there is a shooting range near you, many of them rent handguns to try. You might be surprised how hospitable they are.

Things are getting a bit out of control all over the country in terms of crime. I live in a state where you use the stand your ground argument. Things are still somewhat okay here but, you never know.

I managed to get my hands on this bad boy at a discount i might add. I am told it can use a range of shells. It is quite fast and so far whatever I aimed at I nailed. I am sure I will miss everything I point at when using a handgun.

Now I am in the market for a handgun.

I wonder if the second gun is legal

I don't know anything about you or what your experience is with guns, and I don't know if your state requires training to carry. I would recommend at a minimum take a "NRA Basic Handgun" course or equivalent.

If you want a handgun exclusively for home defense you almost can't go wrong with a full-size real-steel revolver. Super reliable and super simple. I would get a .357/.38. In a heavy steel gun the .38Spl is going to be a soft shooting round and you have the option of shooting high power .357 Magnum rounds as well.

If you want an EDC (Every Day Carry) that's a whole other can of worms. Your body type, typical apparel, comfort with recoil, grip-strength all come into play.

It's worth calling several ranges within as far as you're willing to drive. Most ranges charge by the gun for rental; i.e. $15 for a 9mm Glock, $15 for a 9mm Ruger, $15 for a 9mm Springfield Armory = $45 (plus ammo) to try out some different guns. (Only) One range I've heard of changes $20 per caliber! You could go in there and pay $20 to rent all the 9mm guns in their rental fleet (probably a dozen or more models). Another $20 (plus ammo) would let you try out all the .45 caliber guns in their rental fleet.

I agree with Eric wholeheartedly except for one detail, but this exception dependent on your situation. I wouldn't want to use a handgun in my home unless I knew it was absent of anybody else except an intruder. Reason being their bullets can easily penetrate typical walls, and, well, you can imagine. Nobody you know at home? "Fire at will", well, if you're backed into a "stand your ground" corner by law.

For home defense its hard to beat a shotgun, that with the right loads won't over-penetrate. Forget slugs, and heavy buckshot. My choice would be a 2 3/4' #2 buckshot, don't need a 3", better control with a 2 3/4". #2 birdshot, or any birdshot, you might be surprised what a heavy leather coat might stop.

Your Winchester would do nicely at home, yet I say better with a shorter (the shortest) barrel, which are readily available. Quicker to point, and easier to retain if a struggle ensues (don't go sticking it first through doorways).

As Eric states, handguns, a different can of worms. Expecting zombies?  Greet them with your Winchester loaded for bear!

I've put a few magazines through the pistol (it's hard to shoot a lot through any one gun when you bring 4-6 guns to every range session). I just got the carbine this week and haven't shot it yet. Maybe I should take it out in the back yard and pop off a few...

Yes, they are both chambered in .40 S&W and take the same "Glockazines" ;)

Use a VPN, Scott. Protonvpn is free, but paid ones tend to be generally much faster, but the speed is acceptable on proton

A strong mindset with a gun I would think is quite a formidable combination

I have a paid Proton subscription and my phone defaults to all data through Proton (though the tweet above is deleted).
