Made me think of these from Allied Dunbar. I particularly remember the first two.
Priceless. I watch movies, and ads sometimes from periods gone by and it makes me nostalgic. It seems the smarter machines get, the dumber humans get.

It probably started with the abacus. Before that you had to work it out properly, then people got lazy.

Inflation in the UK

Post by harryg »

The price of petrol (gasoline) is so high that I've had to start putting put vodka in the lawnmower.

Trouble is, I ran out of vodka, so

The grass is half cut

I'm here all week.

Good joke. Humour aside, this is the sort of thing that leads to actual revolutions ... is the U.K. getting close to that phase?

Ta ;)

I doubt it, but you never know.

The Brits are (or at least used to be) a hardy lot in that respect, what they like to call the 'Blitz' spirit. Foreigners see it as apathy.

This current crisis is more energy (ie: household heating) than petrol.

After an increase of 54% in April, they're going for another 40%+ in October, so these bills will have more than doubled in the space of less than a year.

The govt has just announced some new measures, aimed mainly at people on benefits (social support) - essentially some money to help pay the bills. To be funded by:

a 25% windfall tax on energy companies...

Companies can escape 90% of this tax by investing in new fuels.

It's not really like the UK to introduce a windfall tax (we're not Hungary after all) - clearly it can have a negative impact on investor confidence. It's supposed to be a one-off, we'll see.

Wasn't my favourite comedy but had it's moments, the detective was the funniest!

I emailed this to my coworker two weeks ago because she once said she gets 2 gallons of gas and it lasts her all summer...
Just preparing to mow the lawn.

This was two weeks ago. I drove the tractor around for a couple (2-3) hours putting wood chips in the playground and cleaning up some dead trees, then finally got to mow last weekend. Tonight I paid about $48 for this weekends fuel.

This is a comedian called Gina Yashere, from East London.

The clips are poor quality, I can't find better for now. They are from one of the Lenny Henry shows.
