Interesting Video I just watched this morning that pertains to life pleasures, I find most of us on this forum think alike already but nonetheless it's a good video which may help some enhance there life pleasures. I 2nd what MarkD pointed out, that some things are better to splurge on such as shoes as I do have heel pains so quality does make a major impact on some things. Reminds me of the Forest Gump movie

Fairly easy to discern with family and friends, they're not truly needy and any "charity" with them will likely be recognized even if trying to be anonymous. Organizations and strangers? I wouldn't donate to his church, but donate to a Monk, with the understanding its not for the church, but what he seems proper. Anonymous in an offhand sort of way, I would like to think. Perhaps I'm a bit too cynical, though I try.AstuteShift wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 2:32 pmAbsolutely
Once you advertise your good actions then you in essence turn to arrogance even if it’s as small as a pen drip
It’s always better to be unknown or in the shadows. You obtain peace and freedom
Fame is a prison and a burden
I have been practising this for almost 15 years. I won't delve into the specifics as it diminishes the benefits. From a higher-level perspective, anonymity entails helping others without seeking attention. It is not necessary to assist individuals anonymously; rather, the issue lies in broadcasting one's actions. Once you broadcast, you lose the reward, the broadcast is your reward. This concept originates from the ancient law of balance, where the equation always finds equilibrium.

My wife thinks I am a bit weird by wanting to remain mostly anonymous as I am quite gregarious at times. I did do some theater and public speaking in my past.

Mark, I'm confident that others share my sentiment when they say your posts are usually quite interesting. So, no need to hold back. It takes a wise person to acknowledge the importance of silence, while the ones who believe every word they utter is absolute truth usually prove to be the opposite.
Regarding spending, "splurging" might be a more fitting term as it accurately describes the behaviour of most individuals. I've come across a simple solution: shifting most items, you categorise as "needs" into the "wants" category. This makes it easier to maintain control. I also approach spending from the perspective of investing. I want to purchase high-quality stocks at a bargain price. Anyone can purchase something cheap, but acquiring something of value at a low to fair price requires a bit of skill and a touch more patience.
Something you might find interesting
One telltale sign of a weak ego or mind is to gently challenge a person's wealth or lifestyle. If they react violently, well then you know who you are dealing with. It is astonishing how many otherwise intelligent individuals crumble under this simple test.

Thanks Sol, understand better now. Broadcasting one's charity analogous to boasting of one's possessions. Unfortunately, we're in the self-absorbed, video/verbal/vomit/diarrhea age. Indeed. Now I saw Apple made these VR googles but the price is ridiculous and it looks heavyBudge wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 2:42 pmUnfortunately, we're in the self-absorbed, video/verbal/vomit/diarrhea age. Seems like Apple, is turning into a dinosaur of the past. They haven’t made a good product in forever. These dinosaurs will get chopped up into pieces in the AI super bubble
The meta verse was a laughable failure however it sets the stage for a new agile company to take over compared to Facebook or Apple who are bogged down with liberal brain dead zombies

The same can be said of NVDA. What they fail to consider is that the chips they manufacture can be used against them. AI can and will be employed, if not already in use, to seek ways to enhance productivity and speed while keeping costs low. In the end, they all rely on Fabs for production, so all you need is money and a good idea, and there is plenty of money available.AstuteShift wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 2:53 pmIndeed. In studies what comes out is that over and above basic needs the thing that gives the most contentment in life is quality relationships , I would include God in this.
I enjoy a nice cup of tea with a friend, I'm so English!
On giving anonymously, here's a quote from guess who:
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
So if this is a principle discovered before the words above, is it simply because it is by his sovereign design?

Sat outside in the garden in the shade as it's 27C here at the moment. Just had some dairy free ice cream and been watching birds come down and eat from the bird table just 15 feet away whilst my wife is making a cup of tea, I'll add that to my list of cheap but immensely satisfying pastimes!

I thoroughly enjoy spending quality time with individuals who possess common sense. Even sharing food and drinks on the grass is fine compared to dealing with the arrogant chaps who believe that money can buy everything. A moment with these dopes, even under the most extravagant of settings, is one moment too many.
On a separate note, I had the opportunity to interact with some mammoths, and I must say, they surpass the average person by far in many aspects.
