Interim Market Update OCt 15. New Plays

Post by SOL »

There is always going to be some drama surrounding the markets. If it’s not COVID, it will be some other random piece of rubbish the media decides to highlight. Historically speaking, this is how the press works; the days of reporting accurate news are gone. Now their sole function is to create mountains out of molehills. Hence until the trend changes, one should embrace healthy pullbacks.

VRNS and ULH traded with the suggested exit targets, fills were reported for both. The gains for VRNS amount to 106% and the profits for ULH amount to roughly 40%. Fills were reported for the HIMX Jan 5, 2022 calls.

On the ETF front, LIT traded to 42 before we could get in, so the play is no longer valid and all pending orders should be cancelled.

Moderate to High Risk Portfolio

Aphria Inc. (APHA)

This is our second foray into the cannabis sector. Our first foray was via CRON. The industry is starting to heat up again. However, as the plays in this sector are generally quite volatile, this play is going to fall under the moderate to high-risk portfolio.

Deploy one lot in the 5.25 to 5.55 ranges

New notes Oct 17th, 2020

The play was posted before the earnings were released. The stock gapped down and it appears that every fill that was reported so far took place in the 4.70 to 4.85 ranges.

New Index set to Debut.

We will discuss this index in more detail in the next update. However, if you look at the image closely, it is relatively easy to decipher the information contained within this new index.

Yes it is but the background was distracting (I'm off at an extreme tangent here) the fist in the image is a most miserable fist, guaranteed to cause the most damage to the punchor than to the punchee.

We have several versions we were trying to go with the least aggressive one as the point was to focus on the index and not the fist lol. But your point is a salient one :)

Is APHA still a buy @ current price of 4.65 even though the update said buy from 5.25 to 5.55?

Hope the new and perhaps improved version is to your liking lol. We usually create 3 to 4 versions before settling on one. As the one i posted was the only one availalbe at the time I posted it. However we will probably defer to the new version as its more indicative of the emotions the index is trying to capture

Yes it is. Just because a stock drops in price does not mean it will be thrown out as a play. There was a bit of an overaction to the earnings. What the crowd missed was the huge improvement in ebitda. Even though we don't pay attention to fundamentals the improvement was quite large and given the damage COVID hysteria has caused the earnings are not bad.

More importantly, the technical picture is still good, having said that keep in mind that this is a higher risk play.
