Let's not forget some of the greatest Opera singers of all time and in that arena, I think the Italians dominate

Can't discount the great Swedish tenor, Jussi Björling. Sad that booze did him in. Pavarotti once said:

"When I'm about to train a new opera, I first listen to how Jussi Björling did it. His voice was unique and it's his path that I want to follow. I would more than anything else wish that people compared me with Jussi Björling."

Here's Björling with Robert Merrill, the great American baritone in the Pearl Fishers duet:

Had to add Björling's Nessun Dorma:

I stand corrected, Björling's has a voice that is not only powerful but full of Passion. One can now clearly see the influence this man had on Pavarotti, though this is quite a mean rendition of Nessun Dorma:

Agreed. The ability of the great ones to make that final note without straining.

SOL I always meant to ask you. How do you go from listening to Heavy metal, cyberpunk, Dance music to listening to Classical and opera with such ease? I have yet to meet anyone that has such a wide range of tastes and seems to enjoy all these different types of music equally. The difference between heavy metal, cyberpunk type of music and Opera is incredibly vast, to say the least :ugeek: :ugeek:

Maybe Yodean, Astute, Budge,or Stefk, etc might be able to help shed some light if SOL does not respond

Each period of the history has her music. Each period corresponds with a cycle. You and all of us also have cycles. I have also cycles, and each cycle corresponds with a music style.

For Sol, il could be also his eclectism, his manner of seeing the world

@Cinnamon Stefk seems to have quite remarkable insights. i will say his assessment is fairly accurate. History is marked with specific pockets of Music. I try to relive all those pockets by listening and appreciating all types of music for a period. Being able to switch and appreciate a specific type of music for what it is, enables one to see the full picture much better than trying to put down one music over another. An observer, observes without rendering judgement. He/she tries to understand the energy, theme or driving element behind each event and in doing so a picture, a pattern starts to take shape.

Music to me is like therapy or tuning in a certain energy

Do I want to feel power and rage? Death metal

Do I want to feel leaving my body? Psychedelic trance

Classical music, jazz and other sorts hits that piece in you that can’t be defined in words, like a spectrum of emotions at once. Sometimes I can’t listen to this since it gets deep but that’s the fun process too
