Amen to that but it's a very hard stance to take. I have received a lot of Flack after I stated that I will not attend any family get together if there are more than 30 members attending. I wish i could say it bothered me but it does notAstuteShift wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 4:41 pm
Most of my family I view them as sheep unfortunately but it’s not my place to go against Platos Allegory of the Cave
It’s the herd psychology, they need to all be part of something, even if it’s questionable. They earn for safety when in reality safety is an illusion. Hell the markets are the greatest illusion on earth, it’s designed to fleece the populace.
This past year, I’ve ruthlessly cut dead weight. It’s amazing what you can do with a clear mind. I don’t even want to be around sheep since it’s contagious

Problem is, we the people have the law with us, but the judges dont apply this law, they prefer sacrifice the people for their career. In Portugal the judge Rui Fonseca e Castro sacrifices his career for the portugese people.

The "logic" here according to Macron is: Health pass = no need to lockdown the unvaccinated
That's a HUGE difference because you see right now all those unvaxxed peasants are paying 70€ for a PCR test every 3 days to enjoy the same privileges as the potentially infected and contagious, but nevertheless good obedient citizens.
In the last two years, Macron went on record before insisting that no lockdown would be necessary, then that no mask mandates would be necessary, then that no vaccine passes would be necessary, then that no vaccine mandates would ever be put in place.... I wonder why any decent journalist would even bother reporting on what this patholiogical liar says anymore.

Preparing the world for the next Pandemic
Nipah virus could cause another deadly pandemic, warns the inventor of AstraZeneca’s COVID vaccine
As the world continues to grapple with COVID-19, there is another virus that is one of the next pandemic threats, warns a scientist who is one of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine inventors.
It goes by the name of the Nipah virus and there is currently no treatment or vaccine.
“If we had a delta type of Nipah virus, we would suddenly have a highly transmissible virus with a 50 per cent mortality rate,” Dame Sarah Gilbert said during an event at the Cheltenham Festival of Literature in the United Kingdom on Thursday.
So, what is the Nipah virus and should we be worried?
The Nipah virus is not new and has been lurking for years. In 1999, the virus arrived in central Malaysia after it found a host in bats, who then stopped over to eat from fruit trees that hung over pig farms.
The pigs ate the leftovers from the bats and the virus passed through the pigs to the humans that worked with them.

I have visited Russia and Ukraine several times. If you don't have some understanding of the language and the operating rules then you are going to have a hard time adjusting. Ideally, as Scott alluded to, it would be good to have some friends or a loved one in those places. If you are going to make the move, then In Russia I would suggest going to places like St Petersburg and another place that is surprisingly nice is Kalingrad (from a Western Perspective). In Ukraine, it would have to be Kyiv or LVIV. I prefer Lviv as people are friendlier nad it has some elements of western Europe while maintaining its Eastern European culturescott wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 6:33 pmI live in a small town, not mainstream. Re: Insights into the COVID Pandemic
More than ten thousand people took to the streets in Austria to protest against the government's plan to introduce a lockdown for people who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19, news agency Sputnik reported on Sunday. Notably, the decision is likely to be announced by Sunday evening over the restrictions imposed on the unvaccinated population. The Russian news agency said that the demonstrators walked to the regional office of the national broadcaster ORF. According to the protestors, they said the national broadcaster is lying over the COVID-19 data and publishing bogus reports over the compulsory vaccination.

The Individual vs. the Collective
One short answer is simply that there is no way to wake anyone up, at least not directly.deepthinker wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 4:14 pm SOl you are Ninja when it comes to MP, is there no way to save some of the masses. I am trying and failing dismally in trying to wake up friends and family members. Surely there must be some way.
Lead by silent example, when possible.
If someone shows a willingness to learn something new, she will ask you. At that point, if she is really interested, you may provide your rationale for your position, and leave it at that. If she is truly interested, it will be reflected in her future actions, which may include asking you more questions, etc.
Be willing to "prune" all the fairly "useless" relationships that are likely present in your life at the moment. Or at least reduce and constrain the boundaries of those relations to what is practical - e.g. with your boss, co-workers, etc. who do not agree with you on a particular issue, do not engage them in that topic if possible, and simply focus on the areas of agreement, in order to collaborate with them, when needed.
Same with family members, friends with whom you go drinking for fun, etc. Easier said than done, of course.
Over and over again, try to face the terrifying fact that your wife, girlfriend, child, husband, father, mother, sister, brother or best friend may be some variety of Sheep. Learn to love them despite this, but do not expect to change them.
Even more terrifying, perhaps, try to face the fact that you yourself have been a Sheep up to this point in your life, at least with respect to some issues. Accept also that it is inevitable that at some point in the future, you will realize you were horribly wrong on an important issue, and that everything that was truly important to understand, you knew as a toddler.
Learn to be happy spending time alone. Probably this is most important, for most. Mainstream society has conditioned the Herd to believe that to be happy, one must be surrounded by approving friends, family, and ideally, an exceptional lover. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the company of those around you, but the enjoyment of time alone is tacitly frowned upon, generally, and considered somewhat "weird," by the Herd.
Perhaps just as importantly, spending quality time alone will reduce your desire to change or "wake up" anyone. In many ways, "Hell is other people."
Take some shilajit and play. Do something every day that makes you feel a bit uncomfortable, ideally something that mainstream society frowns upon.

A propos the nazis
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23040706/
During the Weimar Republic in the mid-twentieth century, more than half of all German physicians became early joiners of the Nazi Party, surpassing the party enrollments of all other professions.
Nothing has changed, the majority of physicians are conformists, and they are paid by big pharma. Hopefully, our Yodean is not one of them.

Re: The Individual vs. the Collective
I found it very liberating to realize this. I've held wildly contradictory beliefs over the course of just 15 years. And this helped me see later that none of those thoughts were really "mine". They were either absorbed from my environment or developed in reaction to it.Yodean wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 2:17 pm Even more terrifying, perhaps, try to face the fact that you yourself have been a Sheep up to this point in your life, at least with respect to some issues. To me, this illustrates the importance of "non-identification" with an idea. With any idea.
And I remind myself not to judge someone for being a sleepwalker. I was too. Maybe I still am. Everyone grows at their own pace. Some won't ever wake up, but that's not my or anyone else's job to do it for them.
Also, I find it helpful to remember that:

I can however provide suggestions on how to deal with the sheep. Trying to wake them up is very dangerous, just watch plutos allegory of the cave.deepthinker wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 4:14 pm SOl you are Ninja when it comes to MP, is there no way to save some of the masses. Yodean provided some sage advice.
Here are some other simple measures. Those that you think are close to you especially family members treat them like snakes unless they prove their worth. Most family members are nothing but trojan horses. You are strangers that happen to be related by DNA, nothing more, nothing less
Don't try to wake the dead for they will punish you severely
If the main consensus is against yours, pretend you agree with it and then move on.

Re: Insights into the COVID Pandemic
@MineralsNinja: all my income since the end of 2019 is from investing. I reached a certain level of financial security and retired from active clinical practice at the end of 2019, before cv19 appeared. I still do some pro bono MD work for fun, and I keep the MD license active more as a kind of insurance policy in case something really drastic happens. My subspecialty was Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy and Gastroenterology, which is a particularly procedures-focused area, so I didn't prescribe too many drugs, compared to a lot of other medical specialties. Apart from getting some free samples of medications for my patients here and there, did not take any money from Big Pharma.
