Animals vs Peeps & Dogs vs Cats and other Mysteries

Post by harryg »

Overall, and present company excepted, I have found animals to be better than peeps.

Aside 1: Give me some poetic licence here - there's a difference between being slightly unconventional and being the kind of weirdo who will be found in a remote hut with dogs chewing on the decomposing carcass of the artist previously known as Hårri.

Aside 2: Some might say, incidentally, that anyone who prefers animals to humans clearly has some sort of deep-rooted problem that prohibits them from communicating effectively in a social context. As far as I'm concerned, those people can **** ***** ***.

I have seen posts on these forums extolling the virtues of cats. These posts are spectacularly misinformed.

DOGS are better than cats, and I intend to prove this in a rigourous academic fashion to preclude all argument to the contrary.

I invite you to think about the people you like:

  • These people are loyal companions
  • These people bring joy into your lives and make you smile
  • These people reduce stress by their presence
  • These people will forgive a momentary transgression
  • These people are enthusiastic about something new or exciting
  • These people do not judge you

These people are DOGS.

I could post some images, but the argument is sound without recourse to such chicanery.

Animals may carry cv19, and being physically close to them will kill you. Follow the Science. Unless the animals have been appropriately triple-vaxxed and double-boostered, pet owners will likely perish in a particularly agonizing fashion.

On the other hand, if your pets are not jabbed, you will kill them because by definition, you may have cv19. Follow the Science.

The only reasonable option is for pet owners to be triple-vaxxed, double-boostered, and to make sure their pets are vaccinated as well, such as the fine establishment known as the Toronto Zoo is doing:

Toronto Zoo CEO Dolf DeJong told CTV News Toronto on Thursday that they’re waiting for Canadian approval of a COVID-19 vaccine currently being administered to American zoo animals.

“What we've seen in accredited zoos in the United States is a vaccine being deployed that is providing a level of protection [against COVID-19] ... We definitely are looking to add this tool to our toolbox and add this extra level of protection for animals as soon as it’s approved for use in Canada,” he said.

“Animals like gorillas and orangutans, which are so similar to us as humans, in some cases are prone to respiratory illness — adding this extra level of protection is so key,” he said.

DeJong said that the zoo will aim to vaccinate all primates, big cats, swine, bats and mustelidae — a family of mammals including weasels, badgers, otters, ferrets, martens, minks and wolverines, among others.

“There's 140 of them here that are on the list that we want to again get those shots and get them inoculated,” he said.

Thank you for tip.

Luckily as soon as Covid hit I had the forethought to lock pets + wife into individual hermetically-sealed containers.

No air in or out, safer for everyone.

Also quieter, I have noticed.

I agree with Harry's assessment. I am an animal lover and prefer dogs to cats any day. Cat's ( with a few exceptions like the MANX and others have dog-related tendencies) is manipulative. As for humans a dog makes better company than 90 of them. At least with the dog, there is no negative feedback or ranting. Most people have lost the ability to debate, all they can do is rant and rave.

I have a pair of cats that tick every box on the above list and then some. They are better 'dogs' than most dogs I've been around. One is just grateful to be inside and fed instead of out in the cold where she was born, and the other is a Hemingway (6 toes) and is quite bright and follows me everywhere. When playing outside and I call for them, they come almost every time unless the bold one is very far away, but she comes back not too long after. Though to be fair this is my 3rd pair of cats so I've learned what not to do so they don't act out, and they are both fixed before their first heat cycle, so that help too.

On the other hand, my neighbors brought home a dog last year, and every time it's outside it barks non-stop. they want to have it out more, but don't want to piss off all the neighbors. /shrug

Untrained dogs are a bloody nightmare. There are some very cool cats. One individual I know has a cat that likes to walk with him as a dog would. It even fetches a ball when he throws it or a stick. So cats can be cool if they are the right type and have the right training. Dogs are also very nice provided they are trained

We, the humans are very closed with dogs. 30 000 years ago the dogs became our friends !!!!!!! 30 000 years......

The cats became our friends more recently, 7000 years ago. That makes a big difference. And dont forget that God created the cat to give the human being the pleasure to caress a tiger.....

concerning me, I always lived with dogs, I cannot imagine my life without dogs.

I grew up a dog person, two well trained dobermans and a bloodhound in my youth, no cats. In my 20s moved in with a woman with two cats (I still didn't care about cats), a male and a female. The boy cat took a liking to me, and eventually the girl cat, I learned they can be cool. Since then I've had more than a few cats, at first because I traveled a lot, so a dog was out of the question. Now I won't consider a dog, too needy.

Cats tick all Harry's boxes.

Some of mine fetched balls soccer style, some like a captured prize, one fetched matchsticks. There are a lot of stupid dogs in Russia, my neighbor's included. My two cats growl at him (not my neighbor) when he is on "their" territory. Gregorie Scottovich "Gosha" and I were sitting on a bench out front by the river. The neighbors dog (about 30 kilo) came sniffing around and Gosha growled at him. The dog kind of circled around, as they do, to the other side. Gosha leapt off the bench and chased the dog down the street, my protector. I kid you not.

Stupid cats don't bother people, stupid dogs do.

The point about barking dogs is well-taken.

Barking dogs can be a nightmare - we moved house once just to avoid a barking dog.

Cats can be annoying too though, especially when they jump over from next door and poop in your garden or make that annoying noise all night.

But when cats behave like dogs it is somewhat redeeming

Yea, thinking outside or inside the box as usual, you had a novel solution. Most others stuck at home went out and got pets to keep them company. Huge increase in shit-arsed beasties in the neighborhood and that was only the people!
