Susan Martin is our Main contact in Mexico. This is the first Time the Tactical Investor has ever endorsed a realtor, especially one in a foreign Country. This strong endorsement should reflect our confidence and Trust in this great lady. If you are seriously looking for an alternative place to call home then you won't find a better person to help you in this huge endeavor. |
When I first met my husband he said that he had a 10 year plan to retire to Mexico. At that point in my life I was not even sure how to spell Mexico having spent the first 12 years of my life in various locations in England and then only northern parts of the States, but now 24 years later I cannot imagine living anywhere else.
The village where we live is called Ajijic pronounced ah-
he- heek, in Mexico “ j” is always pronounced as an “h”.
It used to be a sleepy fishing village but in the last 25 years has grown
in size and year round is home to
about 4000 Americans , Canadians and Europeans .
In the high season that number probably increases to 6000.
The village is surrounded by mountains and sits at the edge of a lake
which gives us a very temperate climate that has been described
as the second
most ideal climate in the world, hence one of the reasons that we are such a
popular destination both in the winter and the summer.
We have a dry season that runs from November thru May and then June thru
October the rains come but mostly at night and with a week of the start of the
rains all the mountains become green and the colors everywhere become even more
intense. In the dry season the
temps are between 70 to 85 with a bit of a cold spell during parts of January
and December where you have a little cold weather at night and early
morning before the sun comes out again. During
the rainy season the temps are most of the time between 70 to 80.
We have snow birds but also sunbirds from Arizona, Texas and Florida etc.
As retirement looms ever closer so many people are faced
with the reality of the need to make the money they have saved go further.
Prices down here for the most part are far cheaper than those one would
be facing in the States and Canada, especially the coastal locations
House prices run the gamut from $ 80,000 to $ 500,000 but
the average price of the houses that are sold runs around $ 150,000 with the
majority of the houses that are sold falling between $100,000-$200,000.
Property taxes are almost non existent, they run around $ 100.00 for the whole year, yes that is one hundered dollars.
Any type of service is vastly cheaper here maids cost $ 2.50 per hour and the gardeners are paid $ 3.00 an hour. You can have manicures for $ 4.00 and pedicures are $ 5.00
Hair cut $ 7.00 and color runs $ 15.00.
We are located 1 hour away from the large city of
Guadalajara where you can shop at Costco, Walmart and Sams.
Also take advantage of the wonderful restaurants and theatre and cultural
events. There are very fine
hospitals and excellent diagnostic facilities that one can utilize at a fraction
of the price. The national health
system down here is available to foreigners at a cost of around $ 400.00 dollars
for a two people.
The international airport is only 20 miles away so
accessing the States and Canada is very convenient and easy.
Mexico is a land of great variety and home to so many
wonderful people but it is also comforting to know that one is heading to a
destination where there are lots of people that came from the same country that
you did so while you learn how to
speak Spanish you can also be talking to all your friends in English.
There are a never ending list of activities that are available from Golf, bridge, tennis to computer and book clubs. Many charities that are always in need of assistance and a very active social life if one wants to go that route.
